Gaining Ground.

I know that normally I talk about recipes on this blog, but I just have to comment on the recent news about Afghanistan.
Well, this is a good bit of news, isn’t it? It’s nice to think that Afghanistan is finally getting a little closer to being in charge of its own security. The only thing is that it seems to be such a very long and drawn-out process. Mind you, bureaucracy is well known for moving its wheels at a painfully slow pace.
We should never have got involved was this situation to begin with; at least, not in a military way. Now we are in way over our heads, but our leaders are far too proud to admit it. Sending troops into Afghanistan is one of the singularly most stupid things that Britain has done in quite a number of years. You don’t agree? I can give you 250 reasons why it was such a dumb idea…
It seems that America and Britain are hell-bent on acting as a ‘global police force’ a lot of the time. If there is a country with problems (and if there is something to be gained) then in we go. But if it’s a location that does not have a reward in oil or some other precious substance, then it’s a totally different matter altogether.
No country should be able to just go slinging its weight around whenever it pleases. But what America wants, America gets. And this has been proven in the past… Like when the United Nations had the audacity to question their authority and intentions. Remember that?
The whole thing is completely wrong. Obviously we should lend a hand to anyone who is in trouble within the ‘global village’, but that only appears to work if military action will result in either profit or power.
Are our leaders really this shallow? It does appear to be the case a lot of the time.
I have just updated the copy on the site for heating oil, I know that it must surprise you that I am doing some work for an oil company as my life normally revovles around food; but I don’t think they are as enviromentally irresponsible as I once concluded. Plus, it turns out that oil pays better then cooking…
